Set up your payment account, choose how customers pay, and customize the Venmo Pay widget on your Wix website.
Before you begin, you’ll need an eligible US PayPal business account. Venmo payments are available to US customers and use USD. Customers need the Venmo app; on mobile, PayPal supports Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android. See PayPal’s Venmo requirements.
The screenshots below show an example widget in Wix Studio. The payment account shown is in Sandbox mode, which is for testing only.
After adding the Venmo app to your Wix site, open your site dashboard and select Apps → Venmo. The app dashboard is titled Venmo Pay.
Use Payment account to manage your PayPal Client ID and payment mode.
Use Open editor or Customize widget to edit the widget on your site.
In Payment account, expand How to get your Client ID for instructions.
1. Open the PayPal Developer Dashboard and sign in with your PayPal business account.
2. In Apps & Credentials, choose Sandbox for testing or Live for real payments.
3. Open an existing app, or create an app, and copy its Client ID.
4. Return to Venmo Pay. Select the matching Payment mode and paste the ID into PayPal Client ID.
5. Click Save Client ID.
Use only the Client ID. Do not enter your Client Secret, access token, email address, or Venmo username.
Client ID saved confirms that your configuration was saved. PayPal checks Venmo availability at checkout; the saved status alone does not confirm eligibility. To move from testing to real payments, use a Live Client ID with Live mode.
If a Client ID is already saved, click Manage first.
Click Open editor or Customize widget from the dashboard. Select the Venmo Pay widget on your page, then click Settings.
If you cannot find the widget, use Add Elements → App Widgets → Venmo Pay in the editor.
The settings panel contains Setup, Payment, Content, Layout, Style, and Help. The Setup tab also provides an Open Dashboard button for managing your payment account.
Open Payment and choose a Payment type:
Fixed: Set one price in Amount (USD). For example, enter 25.00 for a $25 consultation.
Custom: Let customers enter an amount. Set the Minimum (USD) and Maximum (USD) under Amount limits.
Donation: Add one to six suggested amounts in Presets (USD), separated by commas, and choose a Default amount (USD). Turn on Allow other amount if customers should also be able to enter their own amount, then set its minimum and maximum.
The payment type selected here controls the form shown on your site.
Open Content. Use Edit content for to choose the saved content profile you want to edit: Fixed payment, Custom amount, or Donation.
Selecting a content profile does not change the payment type on your site; use the Payment tab for that.
Use Customer view to preview payment states, including completion, cancellation, and unavailable checkout. Where editing is available, add a completion message or helpful recovery guidance. These previews do not make a payment.
With Customer view → Payment form selected, you can customize:
Payment details: Show or hide the merchant name, payment title, and description, and edit their text.
Amount labels: Adjust the available amount labels or supporting payment detail.
Customer note: Set the note to Off, Optional, or Required, and customize its label and guidance.
Payment button: Add supporting text. Venmo controls the checkout button label.
Checkout information: Customize the security message and choose whether to show the PayPal attribution.
In Layout, choose Card for a widget with a container or Minimal for a simpler presentation. Adjust the content alignment, button width, and spacing. For Fixed payments, you can also choose where the amount appears relative to the description.
The button-width setting controls the preview action; live checkout uses sizing supported by the payment provider.
In Style, choose Site, Presets, or Custom as the theme source.
Presets include Venmo Light, Venmo Dark, and Soft Neutral.
Use Customize area to adjust the available styling for individual parts of the widget. General settings include padding and, for the Card layout, border width, corners, and shadow.
Review your widget on desktop and mobile. Check the amount, text, spacing, and any required customer note. Resolve any validation or save errors before continuing, and confirm Wix has saved your changes.
Keep Sandbox mode enabled while testing. When you are ready to accept real payments, confirm that the dashboard uses Live mode and the matching Live Client ID, then click Publish in Wix.
Check the widget on the published website. The editor preview shows your design; it does not confirm that live checkout is available or that a payment has completed.
If the widget is hidden: Open the dashboard and check that your Client ID has been saved. If Setup cannot check the configuration, use Try again or Open Dashboard.
If Venmo is unavailable: Check the payment mode, matching Client ID, and PayPal’s eligibility requirements. Saving a Client ID does not override these requirements.
Open Help in the widget settings and choose View FAQs or Contact support.
